The MCC Rebels were back at home Thursday taking on the Adrian Ellsworth Dragons. For the first this season the Rebels were on their preferred field to take on their Rivals. The Rebels and Dragons tried to play twice this season but the weather has not cooperated. The Rebels were looking to pick up their fourth win in a row and their second win of the season. Before the lightning would cause a halt to the game the Rebels would put together another win.
The Adrian Ellsworth Dragons took the lead in Slayton in the first inning. Karly Kruse doubled to center field on a well-hit grounder that took a nasty hop in the outfield grass. She would score one batter later when Claire Hoffman singled to centerfield. The Dragons took the 1-0 lead but it would be their last run of the game. Though the Dragons would get three more hits over the next four innings they were unable to score another run. Thea Schneider would strike out six batters in the game but her biggest strikeouts came in key situations.
The Rebels’ offense got started in the second inning with two outs. The Rebels got a single from Jayda Hellewell and Morgan Winter got on base with a fielder’s choice. Karissa Hurd would single to load the bases and that is when Abby Loosbrock would single in two runs to give the Rebels the lead. With the clouds rolling in and the raindrops getting bigger the teams were moving quickly to get the game completed. MCC would blow the game open in the fourth inning. Mary Lou McNab doubled to open the inning. Jayda Hellewell singled in McNab from second base to make the score 3-1. Morgan Winter was hit by and pitch and Hurd was walked to load the bases. Abby Loosbrock would again single in two runs. MCC’s Atalie Rosenbrook would be hit by a pitch and so would Thea Schneider loading the bases. Zoey Iverson would reach base on a fielder’s choice as Loosbrock was thrown out at the plate 5-2. Sophie Larson was hit by a pitch that would drive in Rosenbrook. McNab would hit a sacrifice fly to right field for an RBI as the Rebels led 8-1. The Dragons would not score in the top half of the fifth inning and after a strikeout and two walks, the game was called due to lightning. The Rebels would get the win 8-1.
Thea Schneider would get the win pitching 5 innings striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 5 hits. Leah Kruse took the loss for the Dragons allowing 8 runs on 6 hits, 3 hit batters, 2 walks, in 3.3 innings. Claire Hoffman led the Dragons with two hits and an RBI. MCC was led at the plate by Abby Loosbrock who went two for three with a walk and two singles. Loosbrock drove in four runs with her two hits. Jayda Hellwell who has been swinging a hot bat as of late had two hits, The Rebels will have two big games coming up this week. Tuesday in Edgerton and Thursday a home doubleheader against Heron Lake Okabena Fulda.
