May 23 Minneota at Slayton

The MCC Rebel Baseball team opened the 2026 Section 3A Baseball playoffs on Saturday afternoon at Tarry Boelter Field in Slayton. The Rebels would watch the Minneota Vikings beat the TMB Panthers in game one of the day 1-0 to advance to take on the top seeded Rebels in their first game of the playoffs. The Rebels received a bye on the first round as the top seed in the Sub-Section, which allowed them to play just one game on Saturday, automatically moving them to the double elimination portion of the playoffs.

The Rebels and the Minneota Vikings played earlier this year in Slayton with the Rebels picking up a 9-0 win. The Vikings had played well against the other top seeded teams in the sub-section like Adrian, RTR, and TMB but they struggled against the Rebels and that continued on Saturday. Krew Schneider got the start on the mound for the Rebels and he pitched well. Schneider allowed 2 hits in his 4 and two thirds innings pitched. He struck out 7 Vikings while allowing just 1 unearned run. Teague Meyer pitched the final inning and a third, striking out 2 while allowing 2 hits. The Rebels did not allow a walk in the six inning game. The Rebels did commit 4 errors in the game, but made up for them with some strong defense. Dugan Kluis threw out a runner at third base and MCC made a nice relay throw late in the game from Gabe Tentinger to Tristan Behrends to Dugan Kluis, to throw out a runner at the plate. The Rebels allowed just one run in the game.

The Rebel offense started strong in the first innings, scoring five runs. Teague Meyer singled to lead off the game and Tristan Behrends was hit by a pitch. Dugan Kluis grounded into a fielder’s choice. Teague Meyer would score on a passed ball and then Kluis scored on an error in left field. Carson Lewis reached base on an error at third by the Vikings and Cayden Veldhuisen was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With two outs, a throwing error by the Vikings catcher plated two more Rebel runs. Gabe Tentinger doubled to left field, scoring MCC’s 5th run. Danny Larson drove in a single run in the bottom of the third with a base hit to right field, to make the score 6-0. In the bottom of the 4th inning the Rebels took a 10-0 lead on a Dugan Kluis grand slam to left field, clearing the 335 sign. MCC would end the game in the sixth inning when Gabe Tentinger was walked with the bases loaded to complete a ten-run rule. The Rebels got the win 11-1 to advance in the winner bracket.

The Vikings clearly struggled at the plate in Slayton this season. In the 3 games they have played, they have scored a total of 2 runs. Their only run against TMB came on a walk, wild pitch, and then two fly ball outs.

Krew Schneider picked up the win for MCC, while Mason Javers took the loss for the Vikings. Teague Meyer finished the game with 3 hits for the Rebels and scored 2 runs. Dugan Kluis went 2 for 4 at the plate with a grand slam, 4 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. The Rebels will play at Irish Yard on Tuesday against Yellow Medicine East at 7:00 pm. The other game on Tuesday in the winners bracket will feature Dawson Boyd and Adrian at 5:00 pm.
