REBEL GIRLS CELEBRATE WIN OVER BLACKJACKS

The MCC Rebel Volleyball team was on the road for the first time this year Thursday night. The Rebels played at Dawson Boyd High School against the Blackjacks in the third game of the Rebels’ season in the final game before Red Rock Conference play. The Blackjacks were looking for their first win of the season while the Rebels were trying to pick up their second win of the week. It was a long drive but the Rebels would leave happy.

The Rebels played a tough game on Tuesday against the Lakeview Lakers in which the Rebels had to show some grit to get the win. Thursday the Rebels took care of business in domination fashion against a very young team. The Blackjacks have just one senior on the roster and just two other juniors in the starting lineup. The rest of the starters are sophomores and the majority of the bench is younger than that. The Rebels closest game would be the first game in which the Rebels got the win. Suttyn Schryvers led the way along with Kat Miller, who made her first start of the season. The Rebel defense was in the right spot to take away easy points for the Blackjacks. The Rebels would win 25 to 20.

The Rebels took the opportunity to extend their bench in the second and third games. The Rebels got Danyel Neilson and Addy Dierks into the lineup in games two and three. The Rebels dominated from beginning to end, winning the second game 25 to 16. Lila Scandrett and Josie Spartz got into the Rebels’ lineup in game three as the Rebels’ domination continued. The Rebels won the third game 25 to 15.

The Rebels second win of the season came just before the team heads into Red Rock Conference play. Kate Blankenship led the Rebels with 8 kills while Suttyn Schryvers added 7. The Rebels finished the game with 9 aces as a team. Suttyn Schryvers and Addy Dierks had 2 each to lead the team. Kate Blankenship led the Rebels with 15 digs in a strong all around game for the Senior and the Rebels. The Rebels will have two games this coming week, Tuesday night at HLOF and then at home on Thursday against MLAC. The Rebels are now 2-1 on the season, while the Blackjacks drop to 0-4.
