AE 61 - MCC 35

The MCC Rebel Girls wrapped up the week on Friday in front of their largest crowd of the season. The Rebels celebrated their game with the Adrian Ellsworth Dragons with Senior night. The first graders sang the National Anthem for the 100th day of school. The Cheerleaders held a cheer clinic, and the music boosters held a burger feed. With all that going on plus the rivals were in town the crowd was large and boisterous. Unfortunately, the Dragons would not allow the Rebels to celebrate a win.

The Dragons beat the Rebels earlier this year and have had a strong season with 14 wins and 7 losses, the exact opposite of the Rebels 7-14. These two teams went scoreless for five minutes or so. When the scoring started, the Rebels scored nine of their first 12 points from the three point line, while the Dragons only made one three in the first half. MCC had the game tied at 12-12 over halfway through the opening half. The Dragons then took the game over with some good defense and good shooting. The Dragons finished the first half on a 14 to 4 run, to take a 26 to 16 lead into half.

The second half didn’t get bet-ter for the Rebels with 12 turnovers and many missed shots. The Rebels Kelli Miller made a pair of deep three point shots in the final moments of the game. Until then, the Rebels only had 13 points. The Dragons, on the other hand, scored as a team. The five starters for the Dragons scored at least 5 points. Brylee Zebe led the Dragons in the second half but only made 3 shots. They were all three pointers and they seemed like they came after a Rebel made basket which helped stop the Rebels from making any sort of comeback. The Dragons’ consistent play on offense and their pressure defense beat the Rebels 61 to 35.

It was a rough game for the Rebels who turned the ball over 21 times while shooting 25% from the field and just 13% from the freethrow line. The Dragons out rebounded the Rebels 36 to 28 while shooting 40% from the field and 75% from the free throw line. The Rebels top scorer was Ava Deacon with 12 points while grabbing 6 rebounds. Taylor Larson scored 9 points, Kelli Miller 6, and Thea Schneider 5. Brylee Zebe scored 14 points while Kamry Lehnhoff and Shandra Cuperus added 13 points each. The Rebels will play host to the Eagles of SWC on Monday.
