On November 28th, Vietnam War, US Army veteran, Private, Dale Wehmeyer, of Westbrook, was awarded a Quilt of Valor, to honor, appreciate and thank him for his service; and to bring comfort, peace and healing. Kerry Cassens from “Patriotic Piecers, QOV” presented his quilt.
Dale’s active military duty was 1968-69. He was assigned to twice daily transport classified documents from point to point in Vietnam. During his service he was exposed to Agent Orange. He received the Vietnam Service Medal upon his honorable discharge. After discharge Dale, worked for Ready Mix, Toro, as trucker, and worked several years for R & R Dairy Company, Westbrook.
Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF), was established in 2003 by Catherine Roberts to “cover Service Members and living Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor”. Since 2003 more than 434,000 quilts have been created and awarded to American veterans and active military service members. Anyone can submit a QOV nomination for a veteran or active military service member to receive a QOV quilt.
