Murray County Medical Center will host a community blood drive on Tuesday, February 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in support of local patients and the community’s blood supply. To schedule an appointment, donors may visit www.cbblifeblood. org, select “donate now,” “blood drive calendar,” choose February 3rd and click on “Murray County Medical Center” or call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222. All blood donors will receive a $20 Subway gift card as a token of appreciation. “The demand for blood donations remains critically high at Community Blood Bank,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director. “A particularly intense cold and flu season has prevented many regular donors from giving blood, creating shortages that make it difficult to meet hospital needs. Blood requirements are constantly shifting and unpredictable, and maintaining a stable supply requires community volunteers to step forward with this life-saving gift. We welcome both new donors and returning supporters to join us on February 3rd. Every donation helps ensure we’re prepared for whatever comes our way this winter.”
Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with signed parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good general health. Donors should eat a meal and drink plenty of fluids before their appointment and bring a valid ID. For additional information, visit www.cbblifeblood.org. Community Blood Bank is a joint cooperative of Sanford USD Medical Center and Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center and serves as the exclusive blood provider to Murray County Medical Center. As an independent, self-sufficient organization, Community Blood Bank relies entirely on the generosity of local donors.
