MURRAY COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO ACT AS FISCAL AGENT FOR RRRWS PROJECT

During the August 26 Murray County Board of Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Heath Landsman informed the board of a donation of $5,400 for Hazmat equipment through Nobles Coop Electric and a cooperating grant agency. This equipment replaces the outdated items now in use. The donation was accepted by the board.

Ron Schramel, attorney for the Red Rock Rural Water system, requested board approval for Murray County’s acceptance of the financing arrangements for expansion of the system. Murray County will act as the fiscal agent for an approximate $8.1M of the $16M project. The City of Avoca will be included in this expansion. Nine counties including Murray will bear the responsibility of the bonds in case of default by the Red Rock system.

Emergency Management Director Carl Nyquist shared the newly developed Murray County Emergency Operations Plan that has been approved by both the region and the State on Minnesota. The plan was a two-year effort working with Lincoln and Pipestone Counties to meet state statutes. The plan includes information submitted from all hazardous materials businesses as to storage locations and amount of materials. The plan is for use during weather events and all other threats.

Parks Director Justin Hoffman, along with Murray County Racing Association members, were on hand to discuss upgrades to the lighting around the racetrack. New LED lights, poles and underground wires are now expected to cost $370,000. This is well above the $250,000 budgeted for the project. The Commissioners asked for an additional week before making a decision.

Human Resources Director Sharon Giese had two policies with suggested updates in language. The holiday pay for 11 listed holidays will be capped at 88 days a year. Additional hours will need to be taken as vacation time. The other change adds a requirement for a stated reason for any overtime wages.
