April 30 MCC at HLO/F
The Murray County Central Rebel Softball team was on the road last Thursday night. The Rebels were looking to end a losing streak and get back in the win column after a week of losses. They got that win and they never trailed in the game. It was the highest scoring MCC game in over ten years.
The Rebels bats were ready to go at the start as MCC scored a run in the first inning and then ten in the top of the second. The Rebels led 16 to 3 after the top of the third inning and it looked like the game was going to be one sided. But the Coyotes didn’t back down, turning mistakes and errors, walks, and timely hits into runs. The Coyotes scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to keep the game within reach.
The game went the entire 7 innings. In the 7th, the Rebels scored ten runs, just to see the Coyotes score 8. In the end, the Rebels got the win 30 to 25.
Four Rebels had 4 players collect 4 or more hits in the game with Ava Deacon leading the way with 5. Deacon reached base in every inning of the game. She scored 8 runs and drove in 7.
Kate Blankenship had 4 hits and 6 RBI’s while Reese Wajer had 4 hits and 5 RBI’s.
Danyel Nielson had 4 hits and 5 RBI’s.
Lauren Hendel led the Coyotes with 5 hits and 9 RBI’s. The two teams combined for 55 runs and 51 hits.
Kate Blankenship got the win in the circle while Addyson Hendel took the loss.
The Rebels are now 3-7 on the season with a game against RRC/WWG coming up on Monday.
May 4 MCC at RRC/WWG
The MCC Rebel Softball team was on the road on Monday looking for their second win in a row. The Rebels were coming off the high scoring offensive game against HLOF last week looking for a strong performance against the RRC/WWG Falcons. The Rebels played some of their best play of the season, but in the end the Rebels were once again in pulse pounding finish.
The Rebels played one of their best all around games of the season on Monday night. The Rebels were in control of the game for 6.5 innings of softball. The Rebels came out and scored a run in the first inning and followed it up with two runs in the second and another in fourth to take a 4-0 lead. The Rebels didn’t stop as they added two more runs in the top of the fifth to build a 6-0 lead. Ava Deacon led the Rebels with two hits and three runs scored she stole 3 bases in helping the Rebels build their lead. Calleigh Doeden had a double a drove in two runs as the Rebels had the nice lead going to the seventh inning.
Kate Blankenship had a great game in the circle for the Rebels. In the first six innings Blankenship allowed just 4 hits and 4 walks but didn’t allow a run. The Rebels defense had been solid especially when dealing with a tough wind that played havoc with fly balls.
Things got dicey in the seventh inning after the lead-off hit was retired on a ground ball to second base. An error and a fielders choice filled the bases. Leah Carter would reach base on a ground ball to the left side. A fly ball to short right field was not caught by the Rebels to put two runners on base and Carli Ross followed it up with a double to right center scoring the third run of the inning.
Another double made the score 6-5 with the game tiring runner at second base. MCC got a ground ball to third for the second out of the inning and a pop fly to Danyel Neilson in right field ended the game with the Rebels winning 6-5.
Blankenship got the win for the Rebels pitching seven innings striking out 7 walking 4 and allowing 9 hits. Ava Deacon had two hits and three stolen bases while scoring 3 runs. Calliegh Doeden was 1 for 4 in the game with a double and 2 RBI’s. Addie Dierks, Joelle Hellewell, and Kate Blankenship added hits to the Rebel offense.
The Rebels will play a double header at home on Friday against MLAC and then play in a tournament on Saturday in Wabasso.
