The Murray County Central School Board on Monday, December 8 certified the levy to be collected in 2026 at $3,402,571. Earlier in the meeting, the board held a public hearing for Truth in Taxation and received the FY25 Audit report.
Elementary Principal Patrick Freeman reported great turnout for elementary conferences and the American Education Banquet. Parents, grandparents and family friends enjoyed Cookies and Crafts this month. This coming week is full of fun with Winter Dress Up Days.
The first trimester of a new math curriculum is now finished.
High School Principal Jacob Scandrett reported that high school enrollment is down six from the beginning of the school year.
The counseling center has started the MCC Caring Closet – a fund for various needs of students in the district. The MCC Caring Closet is funded through the MCC Children’s Fund. Scandrett also reported that the counseling department is working on new student orientation/ acclimation.
During the first portion of the semester, students enrolled in Community service and Volunteerism class have been engaging in a variety of weekly service assignments that support both the school and the community. Assignments include assisting in elementary classrooms, helping with the community backpack program, collecting recycling and helping to clean and wash ambulances. The school was awarded a $4,000 grant through the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council for a proposed trip for drama students to attend a production of Les Miserables at the Orpheum Theatre.
A report from Superintendent Joe Meyer included financial information from the state’s Budget and Economic Forecast and dates of the upcoming Legislative Session.
Progress is being made with cooks/custodians, paraprofessionals and teachers on union negotiations. Drafts are being made for the 2026-2027 calendar school year, and an MCC Parent/Guardian Survey was sent out to all families with children in school. Responses are due Dec. 15 and data will be discussed at the January School Board meeting.
The board reviewed changes to the Paraprofessional Master Agreement, approving the changes contingent on approval from the union.
Twelve vintage Bernina sewing machines were declared surplus. The school will check to determine what value the machines have, advertise that they are available and see if there is any interest.
