MCC 61 - Wabasso 34
The Murray County Central Rebel Girls were in Wabasso on Monday night for their first of three games this week. The Rebels were looking to bounce back after a tough loss to HLOF last Friday night. The Rebels had played two games earlier this season in Wabasso, losing to MACCRAY and GFW but the Rebels would take it to the Rabbits on Monday in one of their better played games of the season.
The game started with the Rebels scoring the first five points of the game, which was followed by five points from the Rabbits. MCC then took control, scoring 12 straight points as MCC jumped out to a 17 to 5 lead. Ava Deacon led the way with nine first half points and Calleigh Doeden scored seven points, while leading the Rebels in rebounds in the first half. The Rebels forced the Rabbits into 17 first half turnovers, while only allowing 11 first half points. The Rebels led at the half 33 to 11.
The Rebels didn’t slow down much in the second half, as Thea Schneider scored eight points, as did Doeden. The Rebels kept the pressure on enough, but as the game went along the Rebels rotated through some different defenses and offensive sets to work on some things coming up on the schedule. The Rebels used their quickness to generate open looks around the basket. Elizabeth Morin led the Rabbits with 11 points, but no one else on the roster scored more than 5 points. MCC would win 61 to 34.
The Rebels forced the Rabbits into 26 turnovers while giving the ball up 18 times themselves. The Rebels out shot the Rabbits 37% to 25%. MCC also out rebounded the Rabbits 40 to 26 to complete a well rounded performance by the Rebels. Calleigh Doeden led the Rebels with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Ava Deacon scored 11 for MCC while grabbing 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and dishing out 3 assists. Thea Schneider scored 8 points, while Kate Blankenship and Taylor Larson scored 7 points each. The Rebels play their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday night in Windom.
