The MCC Rebel boys basketball team played the second game of the boy girl double header on Monday night.
The Rebels were playing their second game of the season while the Arrows were playing their third game of the year.
The Arrows have opened the season with two straight losses and were hoping to beat the Rebels for their first. MCC was looking to open the year with a winning streak. The Rebels came up short in the second half in what had been a battle in the low post.
The first half was back and forth with each team having leads - there were 5 ties and 11 lead changes in the first 18 minutes. Tristan Behrands was on fire for the Rebels scoring 19 first half points while making 5 of 7 three point shots. The rest of the Rebels struggled to shoot as MCC only made six shots from the field in the first half outside of Behrands. The Arrows were led by their senior post player Austin Musch who scored 10 first half points. Nicholas Bruns came in for the Arrows and made two three point baskets and the second he turned into a four point play as he was fouled on the shot. The Arrows led at the break 33 to 32.
The Rebels shooting struggles continued in the second half as they scored just 23 points. MCC saw the turnover numbers increase in the second half but MCC struggled to put the ball in the baskets. Dugan Kluis and Aiden Swenson scored 5 points each in the second half but that was negated by Musch and Debates who scored 9 points each. The Arrows opened up a double digit lead in the second half. The Rebels simply struggled to get open shots. Pipestone picked up their first win of the season 65 to 55.
The Rebels were led by Tristan Behrands’ 21 points, 19 of which came in the first half. Behrands only took a handful of shots in the second half. Aiden Swenson scored 10 points with 5 points in each half. Dugan Kluis scored 9 points. The Arrows had three players score in double figures. Austin Musch led the way with 19, Cayden Zephier added 12, and Blake Bosma added 10. The Rebels were scheduled to play on Tuesday at Heron Lake Okabena Fulda but that game was postponed due to weather. The Rebels will have the rest of the week off from games but practice will be key heading into the second game in the Red Rock Conference next week.
