Murray County Central opened their baseball season on Friday when they played host to the Pipestone Area Arrows. The Rebels were facing an Arrow team that was a bit short handed in pitching, after playing two conference games on Thursday. The Rebels put together a good showing on the mound and at the plate to get an 11-1 win to open the season.
The Rebels at the plate were led by Krew Schneider and Cayden Veldhuisen. Schneider gave the Rebels the lead in the first inning with a run-scoring double. Veldhuisen drove in a run with a double two innings later as the Rebels took the lead 4-0. The Rebels blew the game open in the fifth inning when Gabe Tentinger hit a three run homerun over the left field fence. The Rebels closed the game out in the sixth inning with four runs to make the final score 11-1.
The Rebels divided six innings between three pitchers, not allowing the Rebel pitchers to use too many pitches. Dylan Kluis started and went two innings and striking out 5 of the six outs. Teague Meyer came in and threw two quick innings before allowing a couple of hits and a run in his final inning. Cayden Veldhuisen finished the game, allowing 1 hit while striking out 1 in his inning of work. The Rebels committed just one error in the field as they picked up a strong victory to open the season.
The Rebels had four hitters connect on two hits or more in the game. Krew Schneider and Cayden Veldhuisen had three hits each and both hitters had 2 doubles. Dylan Kluis and Carson Lewis had two hits each in the game. Gabe Tentinger had one hit but it was a big one that drove in 3 runs. The Rebels finished the game with 12 hits and 11 runs. The MCC pitching staff allowed the Arrows to get 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 10. The win in relief went to Teague Meyer. The Rebels will play Adrian Ellsworth, TMB, and MLAC this coming week in a tough first week in the Red Rock Conference and Section 3a.
