The MCC Rebel Girls were on the road Tuesday night when they traveled to Lamberton to take on the Red Rock Central Falcons. Murray County Central was looking to end a three game losing streak while pushing their overall record back above the 500 mark. The Falcons on the other hand was looking for their first win of the season. The Rebels took care of business in a dominant victory.
The Rebels defense was strong throughout the night but in the first half the Rebels held the Falcons to just 12 points while forcing 16 turnovers. The Rebels offense was spread throughout the roster. Kat Miller led MCC with 8 first half points. Ava Deacon, Kate Blankenship, and Joelle Hellewell each scored 7 points. Brailynn Olson made two 3-point shots, leading the Falcons with 6 points. The Rebels led at the half 39 to 12.
The second half saw the Rebels maintain their lead, stretching it out beyond 35 points to start the running clock. The Falcons got their 3-point shots fall. Olson made another two 3-point shots, but RRC made 7 second-half field goals. Of the seven successful shots, five were 3-pointers. The Rebels took the ball to the basket and lived at the free throw line. Kate Blankenship had a strong second half, scoring ten points. Six of them were free throws. The Rebels didn’t have another player score more than four points, but with the defense they put on the floor the Rebels got the win 62 to 32.
The Rebels shot over 30 percent for the second straight game and for only the second time this season. The Rebels forced the Falcons into 28 turnovers while only giving them 8 turnovers.
Blankenship led the Rebels with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Ava Deacon and Kat Miller scored 11 points each. Olson finished with 15 points in the game, as the Falcons had just two players make more than one shot in the game.
The Rebels will play Friday at home against WWG in a big Red Rock Conference showdown.
