The MCC Baseball team was back in action on Thursday against Red Rock Central/ Westbrook Walnut Grove. The Rebels have had a steady diet of home games inside the Red Rock Conference to open the season and the Rebels have taken advantage. MCC has only had one game that has been decided by less than ten runs. Thursday, the Rebels got their second shutout of the season as the Rebels beat the Falcons 15-0.
The Rebels took the lead in the first inning when Dugan Kluis singled and Dylan Kluis drove him in with a triple with one out. MCC scored their second run of the game on a Gabe Tentinger single to left field. The Rebels blew the game open in the second inning. Cayden Veldhuisen walked to open the inning and Levi Kopperud was hit by a pitch. Carter Hanson singled to center field to load the bases. Teague Meyer drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Dugan Kluis single to make the score 4-0. Dylan Kluis was intentionally walked to load the bases. Krew Schneider singled to drive in two runs, making the score 6-0. Carson Lewis doubled to left field to drive in two runs to make the score 8-0.
Cayden Veldhuisen singled to drive in another run. The Rebels led 9-0 after two innings. In the third inning the Rebels scored four more runs, two on a Falcon error. Dylan Kluis singled on one, and Krew Schneider grounded out for another run.
The Rebels hitting was great, but Dylan Kluis was even better on the mound. The Rebel senior left hander struck out 12 batters in five innings pitched. That means only 3 outs were recorded by fielders for the Rebels. Kluis did allow 3 hits and 4 walks but did not allow a run. At the plate for the Rebels Dugan Kluis, Dylan Kluis, and Carson Lewis had 2 hits each. Dugan Kluis and Krew Schneider drove in 3 runs each, Dylan Kluis and Carson Lewis drove in 2 runs each. Cayden Veldhuisen had one hit in one at bat but walked twice to reach base every time up. The Rebels finished the game with 14 hits and 5 walks and two hitters hit by pitch. The Rebels will be back in action on Tuesday against Edgerton Southwest Minnesota Christian.
