Beth LeTendre Oolman, a 1985 graduate of Slayton High School (now Murray County Central) was recently named the Northwest Iowa Regional Teacher of The Year by the Iowa Department of Education. She was one of nine to be selected for the honor which celebrates excellence in teaching throughout the state.
Beth graduated from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD in 1989 and began her teaching career at the MOCFV middle school in Alton, IA, teaching 8th grade English and History.
In addition to her middle school position, she has also been an adjunct professor in the graduate education department of Morningside University in Sioux City, IA, and an adjunct professor at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA.
Each spring she organizes and leads a trip to Washington, DC and New York City for the eighth grade students.
Beth and her husband Terry are raising two sons. Collin (sophomore) and Cameron (6th grade). She is also involved in the theater and the Tulip Festival in Orange City.
After all these years residing in Iowa, she has not given up her love for the state of Minnesota. It was extremely hard for her to give up her Minnesota license plates for Iowa ones. And she especially loves the opportunity to spend time at the family cabin in Northern Minnesota.
