The House Capital Investment Committee added a stop to Fulda during their third regional tour, stopping by to learn about the infrastructure improvements the city needs.

According to Rep. Joe Schomacker, that the committee would take the time to come to Fulda, meet more of the city leadership involved, and get an open forum to ask questions and understand the project better is a very good sign for the community.

The city of Fulda has been working on infrastructure improvements to its drinking water and wastewater systems for quite some time. Their ask to the state for bonding is for $4 million.

“Water infrastructure is the priority with the committee,” Schomacker stated. “The city has put a lot of work into getting the project to this point where the state can consider it shovelready.”

The city of Fulda testified in the House Committee when the legislation was heard this spring, Schomacker said, adding that Fulda’s water infrastructure, like many throughout Southwest Minnesota and the rest of the state, is beyond repair and so a total replacement project is being considered.

While a formal bonding bill may not be decided until the next legislative session, the committee is gathering information now by visiting various cities and meeting with officials to assess local needs and infrastructure proposals. The committee’s findings will inform the legislative process, which includes the next economic forecast in February 2026, to determine Minnesota’s bonding capacity.
