By Norma Dittman Houser Homes team members are a trio of dedicated professionals who look forward to getting their clients into a home of their dreams. Their office is new to the Slayton community and they are looking forward to meeting more people throughout the area.

On the Houser Homes Keller Williams Preferred Realty team are owner and realtor Maike Houser, her assistant Emily McFarland, and agent Jessica Marsh.

A seasoned real estate agent, Houser opened the doors to the Houser Homes new office at 2500 Maple Avenue, Slayton, on January 4th of this year. Prior to opening the Slayton office, she worked from her home office in Hadley, MN. Houser Homes specializes in serving Murray, Pipestone, Lyon, Lincoln and Nobles Counties.

Originally from West Germany, Houser received her real estate education in that country. She has worked in property management since 2015, moving to America in 2018. In 2020, she joined the Kellar Williams Preferred Realty team.

Prior to the beginning of 2026, Houser decided to create her own real estate company in partnership with Kellar Williams Preferred Realty. She views the decision as a fresh start with room to grow.

During 2025, Houser hired McFarland to be her assistant. “She has been just wonderful!” Houser stated. “In 2025, We sold 50 properties, and have listed several more.”

McFarland worked for Schmitz Grain in Lake Wilson for 27 years. She then made a decision to work with her husband, Zach, who owns EZ Water Conditioning, Slayton. “One day, Maike came in and was talking with us, and indicated that she was in need of an assistant. We visited about what she needed for an assistant, and I said that I would try. The arrangement works for both of us. Once I started learning the basics, it is very fun. I enjoy working with Maike.”

Marsh, a resident of Jeffers, is new to Houser Homes, and serves the Cottonwood County area. She and her husband, Chris, were married in 2005. They have four children and one grandchild. For fifteen years, they lived in Texas and Hawaii as Chris completed his military service. “Out of military life, I’m still trying to figure out my new career, but I am very happy to be a part of Houser Homes,” Marsh stated. “The first day of work I told Maike that I didn’t feel like I knew what I was doing. She reassured me that I was doing just fine.” Marsh finds the real estate industry to be very interesting.

Houser states that client relationships are of great importance, as well as the team’s commitment to give back to the communities they serve. “I am passionate about local farm life and committed to giving back through local initiatives,” Houser stated. She is on the Board for the Casey Jones Trail. While selling rural properties, Houser Homes has found homes for over 20 abandoned horses who were left at acreages.

In January 2025, Houser Homes was included in an invitation to southwest Minnesota realtors to nominate a local food shelf to receive a donation from West Central Association of Realtors. Through that nomination, the Murray County Food Shelf in Slayton received a $300 donation.

“What we do is just part of our life. It’s fun and we very much truly enjoy what we do,” Houser commented. “We would love to have people come into the office and meet us, or call to schedule an appointment with us.”

“We love to help find just the right home of each of our clients,” Houser said.
