By Arnold Krusemark The big news of the week will be Valentine’s Day - the same day most of our readers get this newspaper. Valentine’s Day is when we remember our friends and maybe a few relatives too.
In rural grade school we always had a celebration on Valentine’s Day. In those days there were packages of Valentine’s for sale. After purchasing the lot, all we had to do was pick out which valentine went to whom. Then there were usually games and some kind of refreshment.
Maybe one or two valentines arrived in the mail too. I haven’t had or sent a valentine in years. I do see flowers for sale now. Maybe we will surprise someone that way. We might have had something to eat or do special for the day too. And maybe something special to give too. Those were the days.
Back to our gardening. With the warm winter days we’ve had, we almost wonder if the ground will start something growing.
We’ve mentioned in recent columns that in past years sometime we’ve had good weather up to now and then a blizzard a week until Spring. Obviously, time will tell as usual.
In the meantime, be sure to water your house plants. Until next week.
