By Arnold Krusemark We have more on planning this year’s garden. In checking the catalogues, we do find seeds for miniature watermelons available. These are miniature melons - one for each diner - or may be half for each diner.

And another magazine article suggests what we have been mentioning in this column - at least try something new. Or odd.

We know what we usually plant with common seeds available all over. But maybe try something new.

We did see a new one - each year Gurney’s catalogue seems to have new sweet corn and new roses, among other new items.

One new sweet corn was listed as already sold out. A phone call to their ordering desk explained: they are out now but will have some in time for planting this year’s garden.

From the conversation We suspect they may be getting some seeds from Down Under - either Australia or New Zealand. Might be interesting. We did put in a request to hear when their supply arrives. $17.99/packet of 200 seeds.

Otherwise, we’ve talked about sweet corn - early and late. The same for lettuce - early and late.

In the meantime you might start your winter garden in an unused flowerpot or two. Radishes for sure. Now early lettuce and maybe bush tomatoes. Be sure they get watered enough. They will keep the geraniums company.

And keep your other house plants cared for too. Until next week.
