This coming week will be the Murray County Fair and all its events. We can remember years past wghen the big event of the fair was what we could exhibit for prizes and then the resulting check.
In this writer’s earliest years the check went for an airplane model kit. In later year it went for other things.
When we were in 4-H just for being a member we got coupons good for a meal at the 4-H stand. Later we got accumstomed to going through the commerical exhibits and even working at some. And then there were the grand stand performances. In earliest years we saw good entertainers. More recently it has been reduced to car races. And the rides and other exhibits from the ride company.
They changed through the years too. Right after World War 2 there were military exhibits. None lately. Whatever there has always been enough to make the walk through and sometimes participating in a ride or food.
We still have meals at the 4-H stand - usually. We hope you had a good time there again this year. And back home we compared what we saw in the garden fair exhibits with how our garden was doing. And don’t forget your yard work (betwen rain showers) and house plants too. Until next week.
