GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark Its June. School’s out and some kids have summer jobs. And at home they can help with the garden, yard work, and whatever. When this writer was young it was also time for the first cutting of alfalfa. Then we got to help getting it baled and used.

I think the cattle liked to have fresh hay too. Back in the garden its also time to inspect the vegetables to see how they are coming. Then hacking the weeds out. Thank goodness for long days.

There might be some late planting too. If memory serves me right, it was about this time when some stores starting cleaning out their garden plants - rose bushes for one.

And then there’s the lawn mower which gets busy too. Don’t forget Farmers Market too. In Slayton that’s Thursday mornings early. And back home be sure to water your house plants too.

Until next week.
