By John Stenen In Matthew 27:51, When Jesus died on the cross, Scripture says that the thick curtain that separated the holy place from the Holy of Holies in the Temple where God dwelt, was torn in two from the top to the bottom. What was that all about? Earlier Jesus cried out on the cross, “It is finished!” What was finished?
What was finished was the priesthood, the Temple, and all the animal sacrifices. In other words, the Law had been fulfilled by Jesus and the old covenant had passed away - and the Church Age was now beginning, the Age of Grace. God had left the Temple and has since then come to live in the hearts of whosoever will believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lives in all true believers. No longer would God dwell in buildings made by man.
Buildings are not sacred, Christians are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Stephen, the first martyr of the Church, was one of the first to understand this truth - and the religious crowd killed him because of it. Read Acts 7: Now, all believers are saints of God, and Rev. 1:6 tells us, that we believers have been made kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. God bless.
