When George Whitefield (Dec. 27, 1714 - Sept. 30, 1770), was shaking both the American Colonies and England with his thunderous revival preaching, one man was overheard saying: “This man Whitefield is truly a great man.

Surely he will be the founder of a new religion.” “A new religion!” exclaimed another.

“Yes,” said the man, “if it is not a new religion, what do you call it?” “Why, it is just the same old religion revived and heated with divine energy in a man who means what he says,” replied the other. The old-fashioned Gospel produces old-fashioned conversions when it is preached under the power of the divine Spirit.

It appears that much of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is so watered down today that true repentance and conversion is a thing of the past. Many who claim to be a Christian will never make it. They will be among those who Jesus tells them, “....depart from Me you workers of iniquity, I never knew you.” (Matt. 7:15-23). As someone once said, “Is there enough evidence in your life that you could be convicted of being a Christian?” Or are you a Christian, in name only?
