May 20: Sub-Section in Worthington
The Murray County Central golf teams opened postseason play Wednesday at the Section 3A Tournament held at Great Life Golf and Fitness in Worthington. Competing against some of the top teams in the section, the Rebels entered the day with the goal of advancing to the second and final round either as a team or individually. By the end of the day, the MCC girls team earned a trip to day two, while Kaden Landsman advanced individually for the boys.
The boys began competition in the morning as 12 teams battled through challenging play on the course. MCC finished eighth overall with a team score of 393. Minneota claimed the top spot with a 340, followed closely by Lakeview at 341 and Canby at 352. Hills-Beaver Creek and SWMCH-EHS also advanced as teams after both carded scores of 363.
Kaden Landsman paced the Rebels with an impressive round of 78, securing one of the individual qualifying spots to advance to the final day of the tournament. Landsman carded 9 pars and 1 birdie. Hunter Reese added a 102 for MCC, while Jett Veldhuisen shot a 103. Joshua Wolske finished with a 110 and Gary Plotz rounded out the Rebels’ scoring with a 111. Although the team came up short of advancing, Landsman’s strong play kept MCC represented in the boys individual field moving forward.
The MCC girls took the course in the afternoon and benefited from slightly warmer temperatures, though changing green speeds throughout the day created new challenges for competitors. The Rebels adjusted well and finished with a team total of 388, good enough to qualify for day two as a team. MCC finished atop the girls standings ahead of Russell-Tyler- Ruthton (402), Minneota (430), and Lakeview (434), with all four schools advancing.
Rachael Huso led the Rebels with a round of 89, carding 4 pars and a birdie. Natalie Einck followed closely with a 94, Elysia Korver added a 102 and Brielle Plotz carded a 103 to round out MCC’s team scoring. Lizzie Daniels finished with a 105 and Emersyn Meyer added a 120 for the Rebels.
With both the girls team and Landsman continuing on in postseason play, Murray County Central will look to build on its performances in the Section 3A Tournament.
