WWG 51 - MCC 38

The MCC Rebel Girls were on the road Monday night in Westbrook. The Rebels and the Chargers have had very different seasons this year. WWG has been battling at the top of the Red Rock Conference while the Rebels have been in the middle of the conference all season. The Rebels were in desperate need of a win but the Chargers need to continue to win to keep their hopes of a Red Rock Conference championship.

The game started with WWG getting off to a good start, jumping out on top 12 to 4. Four of the Chargers starters scored a basket each to put WWG in front. The Rebels would take longer to get started, as they fell behind by 12 points in the first half. The good news is that the Rebels’ defense was strong enough to slow down the Chargers, so that over the final two minutes of the half, the Rebels would make a run. Thea Schneider made a three point shot and then Calleigh Doeden made a layup before Kat Miller made a three point shot to make the halftime score 24 to 20.

The Chargers started the second half strong, scoring the first eight points of the half. The lead was right back to 12 points and the Rebels would have to chip away at the lead like the first half. The Rebels made a nice run, led by Kat Miller, who scored seven second half points. Unfortunately, no other Rebel had more than four points. The Rebels kept the game close, but with three minutes to go, the Rebels struggled to score. Leah Carter scored 10 second half points and Natalie Wahl added 8. The duo led the Chargers to the victory 51 to 38.

Neither team shot the ball well on Monday night. The Rebels made 25% of their shots while the Chargers made 27%. Each team made 3 three point shots, but the Chargers out shot the Rebels at the free throw line, making 12 free throws to the Rebels 7. The Chargers outrebounded the Rebels 42 to 25 which allowed the Chargers to shoot the ball 11 more times than the Rebels. Kat Miller led the Rebels with 12 points and Calleigh Doeden chipped in with 11. The Rebels will be back in action on Friday against Adrian Ellsworth.
