By Kathy Schwartz, Murray County Master Gardener Leave healthy perennials to stand over winter. The seed heads add food for birds. Hollow stems provide winter homes for bees and beneficial insects.
Continue watering during the fall only when the soil and air temperature are at 40 degrees or above. This prevents root damage, insect pests and disease problems.
Clean your garden on a dry, sunny day. Pulling plants on rainy days can spread disease spores in your garden.
