Consider these things before you start a garden: sunlight, know the soil, consider the wind, and have a water source.
Be sure to rotate crops. When you plant successive plantings of one crop family in the same area, you are promoting a buildup of disease agents in the soil. Watch especially for the tomato/potato rotation.
A review of NPK:
• N = nitrogen. This fuels leaf and stem growth. It will deplete quickly.
• P = phosphorus. This will stimulate root growth.
• K = potassium. This promotes flowering, fruits, and disease resistance. Packaged products are altered for specific plants, such as roses, lawns, vegetables, etc.
