By Norma Dittman Fulda Heritage Society is once again making engraved pavers available at Memorial Park that runs along the north side of Fulda Lake.
Twenty-five years ago, Fulda Heritage Society, along with the support of the city, its organizations and citizens, committed to memorializing those veterans who fought in wars from the Civii War through to the War in Iraq. The path was planned to grace the site of the former bathhouse and beach on north Fulda Lake.
The combined efforts produced a quiet and welcoming paver walkway where a visitor can see the Fallen Soldier statue that stands near the upper entrance to Memorial Beach.
There is also a welcoming gazebo that extends an invitation to sit and rest a while. And while you are doing so, look out across the beauty of Seven Mile Lake.
Beyond the statue is the paver walkway that was first laid in 2006 after many people purchased the pavers that honor the memory of their loved ones. The walkway includes two six foot by six foot seating areas... both of which are handicapped accessible.
The pathway is built with Interlock Colonial Rectangles that measure 6.3 inches by 9.45 inches.
As Fulda Heritage Society is extending an invitation for more pavers to be purchased and engraved in memory of loved ones, they state that the pavers do not have to be specifically for veterans.
“We had inquiries from people about purchasing pavers and decided we could add more. The pathway is there. The pavers are there. We can definitely add to them! We honor the veterans, but also want to encourage memorials honoring businesses, community members, farmers, educators... all who have contributed to Fulda’s history and are looking to the future,” Fulda Heritage Society president Cindy Meier commented.
The cost of each paver is $125, and includes 3 lines of text with 15 characters per line.
The lettering is 3/4 of an inch in height.
Forms for ordering the pavers can be found at Fulda City Hall, or contact Cindy Meier at 507-227-7148.
Board members for the Fulda Heritage Society include Meier, Jerry Johnson is vice president, Jasmine Bray is secretary and Marge Winter is treasurer.
