The Rebels had a great start to the 2025 golf season with beautiful weather and scores. The weather was ideal this season with the exception of a few windy and rainy days. The girl’s team had 5 returners on varsity and many more on the junior varsity and junior high teams. The varsity team won all but one meet this season and had many individualist medals throughout the season. The Rebels earned the Red Rock Conference title and Section 3A Champion title. Coach Kim DeLong was also named Section 3A Girls Coach of the Year. The girls team advanced to the Class A State Tournament where they played at Pebble Creek in Becker, Minnesota and finished in 4th place. MCC’s boys had a few returners and a few new players as well. They played very well throughout the season and made huge improvements from last year. However, came up short in conference and section play. Many of the boys improved their 9-hole stroke average by 4 or more strokes from last season.

Coach DeLong stated, “We will miss the leadership from Ava Johnson, who led the Rebel girls team the past few years and Theran Mannon, who made great strides in improving her average and was always encouraging everyone throughout the season. There was a lot of competition within the boys team to earn one of the six varsity spots. We could always count on using Dawson’s score for the team score as well as keep the boys in line and having fun. While Drew spent time on the course outside of the regular practice time as he was on the baseball and golf team, he was always working on improving his game. He was a great example for the younger players, displaying excellent leadership, character, and mental toughness. Each boy will be working just as hard next year to get in the starting line-up. I hope next year the boys team will be able to post scores that are more competitive within the conference and section.”

At the end of the season banquet, Most Improved Golfer honors went to Theran Mannon and Drew Wajer. Mannon improved her average by 10.74 strokes, and Wajer by 11.72 strokes. However, the entire MCC golf team made positive improvements throughout the season. Low Average honors went to Ava Johnson with a 44.24 and Kaden Landsman with a 45.16 average. Johnson played consistently throughout each meet and was always looking for ways to improve her game. She ended the season as the section individual medalist and advanced on to the state tournament with the girls team.

The 2025 season was another challenging year for MCC, but the Rebels rose to the occasion and had a strong season overall. Coach DeLong thanked the seniors for their commitment, and also thanked the returning golfers for their dedication to the successful golf program. DeLong stated, “Placing 4th at the State Tournament was undeniably the highlight of the season for the girls team and a remarkable accomplishment.” The golf team is very excited for next year. MCC looks to have many returners, as well as new faces join the squad. The players and coaches are eager to continue their streak of success and have a strong 2026 season.
