By Joanne Bergman During the Murray County Commissioner meeting November 25, the commissioners revisited the purchase of 20 new kitchen ranges for the Sunrise Terrace apartments.
The current units are original to the opening of the facility and are in need of repair. A slightly higher quote from M & H Hardware was approved over that of Menard’s due to lack of repair availability from that source. Cost of each unit is $575. County staff will be utilized for installation.
Ditch Inspector Travis Radke presented problems he is having with Bolten & Menk in obtaining cost estimates for several projects. He received the support of the board to reach out to other engineering firms if the situation cannot be resolved.
Justin Hoffmann, Parks Manager, presented the quotes that were received for the race track lighting replacement. The lowest quote was $345,880 - well above the estimated costs of $250,000. There was discussion of delaying next year’s Horticulture Building renovations to make up the difference. A decision will be made at next week’s meeting.
Also discussed was a request from members of the Makotah Reconciliation and Healing Ride for use of the fairgrounds horse arena and 4H Building on December 19th. The group does not have a Certificate of Insurance to cover liability, a required item for all rentals. Inquiries will be made for coverage, with the rental approved if the certificate is obtained.
Emergency Management Director Carl Nyquist informed the Board of difficulties with the current Code Red system, which no longer functions due to a security breach. He is researching alternative services for the FEMA required alerts. One may require citizens to reregister to receive emergency alerts.
In final action, the last meeting for 2025 was moved from the 23rd to the 30th to allow for payment of year end bills.
