Mother nature rained out Hadley’s Friday night ‘s game against perennial Gopher league favorite Luverne Redbirds, but Sunday was a beautiful day for baseball as Hadley took on Worthington. Here is the game recap:

Hadley 7, Worthginton 1

Hadley’s Memorial Day weekend game had the Buttermakers traveling to Worthington to start off their Gopher League play to take on an improving Cub baseball team. Hadley sent their ace, Tucker Sorenson, to the mound to shut down the Cubs.

Hadley scored in the 2nd inning. Jakob Olson would single to start off the inning. Bryce Ahrendt would work out a walk, but the Cub catcher threw the ball into centerfield on a late ball four call and an attempt to get courtesy runner, Skyler Feikema out attempting to steal allowing Skyler to advance on to 3rd base. Skyler would come into score on a ground out double play. Hadley would load the bases in the 3rd on singles from Austin Irlbeck and Max Zwart and a walk by Derek Kluis. Jakob Olson would then hit a line drive double to the left center fence to clear the bases and a 4-0 lead. Hadley would lengthen their lead to 6-0 in the 5th inning when Hadley once again loaded the bases. Max Zwart would drive in a run on a sacrifice fly and another run crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Hadley’s final score occurred in the 8th when Abe Paulzine walked and moved to 3rd on a single by Eric Wieneke and then Abe would score on a balk call on the Cub reliever.

Tucker Sorenson had another top-notch performance in his 6 innings of work. Tucker would strike out 16 and walk 4 Cub batters and kept the Cubs hitless. Owen Gillette, Trevin Prins, and Josh Van Dam would pitch the final 3 innings. Worthington would manage only 2 infield singles for the day and pick up their only run on a Trevin Prins wild pitch.

Jakob Olson and Austin Irlbeck would lead the Buttermakers with 2 hits. Dylan Kluis, Eric Wieneke and Max Zwart picked up Hadley’s other hits. Tucker Sorenson earned the victory.
