BLUE MOUNDS STATE PARK TO CLOSE DURING SPECIAL HUNT NOVEMBER 22-23

Blue Mounds State Park will be closed to all visitors starting at sunset Nov. 21 through sunrise Nov. 24 for a special deer hunt. The purpose for the hunt is to prevent overpopulation of deer and to protect resources.

Special hunts will take place at other Minnesota state parks and recreation areas this fall, and access to the parks will vary. Park visitors are advised to check the alerts and notices on park websites (mndnr.gov/ park-list) to find details about any upcoming special hunts at the park they plan to visit.

The deadlines have passed for youth and adults to apply for the permits to participate in the hunts, which include regular firearms, muzzleloader and archery options.

All state park and state recreation area special hunts require use of only non-toxic (non-lead) ammunition. For details, visit the DNR deer hunting page.

For a list of parks that are open, partially open or closed during the 2025 hunting season, visit the State Park Hunts webpage (mndnr.gov/parkhunts) or contact the DNR Information Center at info.dnr@state.mn.us or 888-646-6367 (8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday).
