4-H YOUTH LEARN SEED ART AND SEWING

The 4-H Building was full of laughter and learning last week. Murray County 4-H hosted two more creative summer programs.

On Monday, youth ages 6-14 got to try their hand at sewing. Grades K-2 practiced hand sewing, creating an initial keychain. Older youth used sewing machines and created a quilted pencil pouch.

On Tuesday, 4-Hers learned about renewable resources and energy sources through an activity involving making seed paper and other seed pulp creations. Using recycled paper, all participants got to mix up their own paper pulp and take home a piece of seed paper to plant. The purpose of the class was to educate youth about the world they live in, and the importance of conserving and protecting limited natural resources.

The classes were both held from 1-3 p.m. at the Murray County 4-H Building, 3048 Broadway Ave., Slayton, MN.

The things participants made at each class can become projects they can bring to get conference judged at the county fair in August. Around thirty-five area youth attended each afternoon class.
