The MCC Rebel Boys Basketball team was at home for their first game after the holiday break on Tuesday. The Rebels played host to the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen with both teams 6-2 on the season and playing well. Edgerton beat Pipestone on Monday night and were looking for back to back wins in 2026. Much like the game on Monday in the MCC Gymnasium, this game came down to the end between two teams struggling to shoot the basketball.

The Flying Dutchmen dominated the first half as they played terrific defense, holding the Rebels to just 21 points and only allowing the Rebels to shoot 23 percent from the field. The Rebels Aiden Swenson had scored 29 and 24 points in his last two games but on Monday the Rebel Senior scored just 1 point in the first half. The Rebels were led by Tristan Behrends who had 9 in the first half. Wyatt Thomson would throw down his first career dunk in the first half, but the Rebels only had one lead and that was 1-0. Edgerton was led by their star guard Kade Moffit. The 6’2” senior scored 9 first half points but the attention he drew created openings around the floor for everyone else. The Flying Dutchmen led 29 to 21 at the halftime break.

The Rebels came out strong in the second half as the Flying Dutchmen struggled with early turnovers and missed shots. The Rebels outscored the Flying Dutchmen 13 to 4 over the first six minutes of the half as the Rebels took a 34 to 33 lead. The Rebels, led by Cayden Veldhuisen’s 3-point shooting, built a six point lead. With some outside shots falling Swenson got open for eight second-half points. The Rebels offense slowed late in the game and the Flying Dutchmen took advantage. Moffit scored 15 second half points as he rallied his team back into the lead. Tucker Arp scored six big points in the second half as Edgerton pulled away for the 58 to 53 win.

Edgerton’s Kade Moffit scored 24 points in the game but in the second half he scored 15 points while the rest of his team scored 13. Cayden Veldhuisen was on fire in the second half scoring 12 of his 15 points in the final eighteen minutes. All 15 of his points came from the 3-point line, but outside of Veldhuisen, the Rebels struggled to score. The Rebels shot 28 percent from the field taking a season high 71 shots but scoring a season low in points. Edgerton made just one more shot from the field than the Rebels did but they took 17 less shots.

The Rebels were led by Veldhuisen’s 15 points and Behrends chipped in with 13. Moffit finished the game with 24 points while Colin Scholten scored 11 and Tucker Arp finished with nine. The Rebels will play in Mountain Lake on Friday.
