The MCC Rebel Girls were on the road Tuesday night travelling to Hills to take on the Hills Beaver Creek Patriots in a Red Rock Conference matchup. The Rebels have two games on their schedule this week with HBC followed by Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday night. The Rebels have been celebrating homecoming this week and opening the week with a victory was the first thing on their mind. The Rebels would do exactly what they set out to do.

The Rebels would come out firing on all cylinders taking a dominating lead 6-1. The Rebels’ big lead would only grow with some great defense and then big swings by players like Reese Gilbertson who got the Rebels off to the good start. The Rebels defense didn’t allow many clean looks for the Patriots and when they got a big swing the Rebels blockers were there to get a hand on shots. The Rebels would dominate game one winning 25 to 12.

The Patriots would come out strong in game two taking a 8-1 lead turning things completely around. MCC would get a sideout to make the score 8-2 and then the Rebels would work on a comeback. The Rebels would battle back to take their first lead 14-13 in the second game. Suttyn Schryvers would be the key hitter for the second game. The Rebels’ Addie Dierks put together a strong service game and MCC was up 18-16. The Rebels would hold their lead down the stretch and the Rebels would take set 2, 25 to 23 on a net call on the Patriots.

MCC would get the strong start in game 3 jumping out to a 5-1 lead on the serve of Erynn Rohrer. The Rebels showed off their team’s depth in this game as they were able to rotate in a variety of players. The third set would be a back and forth contest as the Rebels would lead by one and a sideout would tie the game. Another sideout would give the Rebels the lead back and it went that way through much of the middle portion of the third game. The Rebels would extend their lead to 21 to 18 on a Avery Thovson ace - her 5th of the night. Suttyn Schryvers would pick up her 10th kill of the match on match point as the Rebels would get the third set 25 to 18.

The Rebels showed some great balance in this game on offense. Reese Gilbertson got off to a strong start in set 1 and then Schryvers took over in sets 2 and 3. The Rebels cut down on the errors that cost them a week earlier against HLOF. The Rebels picked up their 6th win of the season. The Rebels currently sit at 6-4 on the season after splitting 4 games this past weekend in Jackson the Rebels were able to beat New Ulm and St James while losing to Triton and Windom Area. The Rebels Red Rock Conference record is now 2-1 with a big matchup with SWC coming up on Thursday in Slayton.
