The MCC Rebels played their 4th game in 5 days on Tuesday night and to top it off they played one of the hottest teams in Class A basketball in the state. The Tracy Milroy Balaton Panthers on Monday night beat Central Minnesota Christian for the Camden Conference Title. The Panthers are 21-2 on the season heading into the game against the Rebels who were looking for the biggest upset in school history. That wouldn’t happen.

The Panthers have a very balanced team that can score in many different ways. The Panthers come at you in waves first defensively with their pressure and then on the offensive end. The Panthers are not the biggest team on the floor but they might be the quickest and deepest team we have seen this year. The first half MCC stayed in the game over the first ten minutes or so as the Panthers struggled with their shooting but MCC could not score enough to keep in the game. The rebounds and the turnovers piled up and the Panthers’ lead grew. Margret Dolan had a great first half sneaking through and around the low post for 13 points. Though she is one of the shorter players on the floor she has great timing and knows how to get herself open for baskets around taller players. Jordan Munson, Maddi Langerock, and Camille Dolan each scored 5 points in the first half. The Rebels were led by Emily Rohrer who scored just 3 points. MCC trailed at the half 35-9.

The second half flew by due to the running clock the final nine minutes of the game. The Rebels simply couldn’t match the depth of the Panthers even with some of the key players seeing spot minutes in the second half. The Panthers were well on control of this game. Mary Lou McNab scored 4 points in the second half to lead the Rebels. TMB scored 2o second half points which was just one point less than the Rebels scored for the entire game. The Panthers would pick up the win 55 to 21.

The Rebels had 33 turnovers to the Panthers 14. MCC struggled at the free throw line where they made three the entire game shooting under 30%. TMB is a very good basketball team but if they wouldn’t have scored in the second half they would have still win the game by 14 points. Emily Rohrer scored 5 for the Rebels while McNab and Abby Overman each scored 4. The Panthers were led by Margret Dolan’s 13 p and Langerock’s 12. MCC will finish the week with parents night Thursday against Adrian Ellsworth.
