The MCC Rebels were back at home on Friday for their third game of the week. The Rebels had split their first two games, losing to Lakeview and then beating RRC. The Rebels defense has been strong this season but the ups and downs on offense have cost them several games this season. Friday would fall into that category for MCC as the Wolverines would avenge a loss to the Rebels from earlier this year.

The Rebels did start the game with the lead, even though it remained a low-scoring game. The Rebels Ava Deacon and Jayda Hellewell started things for the Rebels. Hellewell scored inside while Deacon made the fast break on Wolverine turnovers. The Wolverines are not a very big team, with their tallest starter measuring in at 5’8”. The Rebels used their size to dominate the glass but MCC didn’t do enough to score down low throughout the game. Kelli Miller got hot from the three-point line in the first half, making four from behind the arc. The 12 points by Miller led the Rebels, but MCC only scored 25 points. The Rebels held the Wolverines to just 17 first-half points.

The first game of the year saw MLAC lead the entire game until the final minute. The Rebels led most of this game but it was not a safe lead. The Wolverines started the second half on a 14 to 2 run to get back into the game. MCC struggled at the free throw line and the field. MCC scored just 12 points in the second half. Even with the poor scoring, they had a chance with a couple of key baskets late to win the game. The Rebels couldn’t make those shots and they would take the loss 44 to 37. The Rebels shot better than the Wolverines in the game though neither team shot well. The Rebels shot just 23% from the field and MLAC shot just 20%. The Wolverines made 3 of 23 three-point shots. Kelli Miller made 4 by herself. The Rebels made a total of 5. What cost the Rebels was the 3 of 11 shooting at the free throw line, while MLAC made 19 of 26. The Rebels had 3 players in double figures. With 12 points from Miller, Deacon and Hellewell added 10 each. The Rebels will play three games this week against three tough teams HBC, WWG, and Adrian Ellsworth.
