WARRIORS WRESTLED WELL AT INDIVIDUALS

The Fulda/MCC Warriors Traveled to Wabasso Minnesota for the Section 3A individual championship tournament where the top two places would travel on to the state tournament a week later. The Warriors made an excellent showing placing 7 of 14 weights.

Teague Meyer at 106 came into the tournament as an 8th grader with a record of 15-18 and lost to Moe Erdman of Adrian in the first round. Meyers first consolation round was against Kayson Harms of Wabasso and Meyer took the match 9-7 putting him in position for third place where he lost again to Erdman in a 10-5 decision finishing in third place in the tournament and finishing 17 and 19 for the year.

Lucas Kuball the 113 pounder for the Warriors with a record of

12 and 20 going into the tournament drew David Schuh for his first round and lost by pinfall in the first period. Then in the first consolation round lost to Rayden Boyenga of Luverne in overtime, putting Lucas out of medal contention and finishing 12 and 22 for the year.

Noah Mathiowetz wrestling at 120 as an 8th grader came into the tournament with a 6-15 record and had Kie Anderson the #1 seed in the first round. Losing against Kie sent him to consolation where he took on Mikale Goblirsch of Wabasso, and losing by major decision finished the year with a record of 6 and 17.

Quintin Lewis came to the tournament as FMCC’s 126 pound 8th grade wrestler with a 11-15 record, and started his day with a win against Bruce Farinella of Adrian putting him into the second round of the championship bracket where he lost to Evan Bartholomaus of Red Rock Central. The first consolation round found Lewis up against Hudson Hough a 7th grader from Luverne and Lewis made short work pinning him in the fist period. In the medal rounds Lewis fell to Kollin Anderson of St. James placing Lewis 4th in the section and finishing the year with a 13 and 17 record.

Denver Ash a 10th grader wrestling at 132 with a record of 16 and 26 started his day with Logan Butzon of Jackson County Central and took a fall with 7 seconds left in the second period. In the first consolation round Ash fell to Levi Miest of St. James with 2 seconds left in the second period just missing the medal rounds. Ash left the tournament with his head high and a record of 16 and 28 looking forward to next year.

Aiden Lorenzen another 10th grader wrestling at 138 with a record of 24 and 20 also had the #2 seed in his first match and Alexander Schuh of TMB took the match in the 3rd period sending Aiden to consolation. The first Consolation round put Aiden against Adryen Tietz of Wabasso where Aiden won by pinfall in the second period. The second round of consolation Aiden had Reese Morrison of Adrian and fell in the second period sending him to the 5th and 6th place bracket in the medal round. Lorenzen had Talyn Tande of St. James and won by decision earning 5th place in the section at 138 and finishing his year with a 26 and 22 record.

Owen Olsem our 145 pound 8th grader started the tournament with a 16 and 22 record, and won his first round match against Gage Struchen of Tracy/Milroy/Balaton. Owen in the second round of the championship bracket fell to Dylan Withers of Jackson County Central. Travelling to the consolation rounds Owen first had Gavin Olson of Pipestone and made short work of the match pinning him in the first period. Olsem then fell to Rilee Heidebrink of Adrian putting him on the podium for fourth place and finishing the year with a 18 and 24 record.

Carter Benda the 152 pound 11th grader started the tournament as the #3 seed and drew Gabe Weber of Springfield for his first match and won putting him up against Isaiah Rodriguez of Jackson going the distance losing by an 11-5 decision. Benda had Jacob Amsden of Red Rock Central in his first consolation round and won by a 6-1 decision giving him 3rd place and a chance at true second. Isaiah Rodriguez of Jackson beat the #1 seed Isaac Bullerman of Adrian awarding Benda a chance at true second. Benda couldn’t hang with Bullerman and lost by pin in the first period missing state but finishing with an impressive record 23 and 15 for the year. Stepping onto the mat as a wrestler for the first time in January Carter wrestling better than some athletes that have 4 years or more under their belt. Look forward to much more coming from Carter as he steps into his senior year next year.

9th Grader Carson Klein at the tough weight of 160 started the tournament with a 10- 26 record and started his day against the #3 seed Ashtin Johnson of Springfield and lost by major decision. Klein won his first match in the consolation round against Pipestones Xavier Banjoko with a 43 second pin. Falling to Chase Irlbeck in the next round put Klein in the medal rounds for 5th and 6th. Eventually earning the #6 spot on the podium Klein finishes his season with a 12 and 26 record and looks forward to next season.

Senior Christian Kuball with a 40 and 11 record started the tournament with the #3 seed and dropped Ezekiel Olson of Wabasso threading the needle on a 19 second pin. Kuball then had the #2 seed Matthew Haley of Jackson and fell late in the third period unable to escape the legs of Haley. In the first consolation round Kuball pinned Jacob Madison of Luverne in one minute and went to the medal round against Jackson Melcher of Pipestone. Wrestling his third place match, and also watching the championship match hoping for Matthew Haley to win it for his chance at true second, Kuball only won by decision and Haley lost ending Kuballs high school wrestling career with 99 wins and 42 and 12 for the season.

Colby Kesteloot our 182 pound 8th grader with a 9 and 14 record had the #1 seed Caleb Vancura for his first match of the tournament losing by pinfall. Colby in the first consolation round fell to Aiden Voss of Pipestone. Ending his season with a 9 and 16 record.

Senior Ryder Henning started the tournament at the #4 seed and Drew Mitchell Streich of Springfield and lost by pinfall in the second period. In the first consolation round Ryder Drew Ayden Bonnett and got caught in a pin with 15 seconds left in the first period. Ryder Henning finishes his senior year with a winning record of 24 and 21.

Rylan Klein came back to wrestling from basketball and had an impressive year going 15 and 21 for the season. Rylan might still have some work to do but was a huge part of this team and came in clutch in a few duals.
