WARRIOR WRESTLERS SWEEP AT HOME

Warriors sweep home quadrangular against Madelia, St. James, and Ortonville on Thursday January 20. Although these teams had some missing weights the Warriors did not and they were able to bring home the wins. The FMCC Warriors club is making leaps and bounds as they travel through this season showing quality wrestling.

The final scores were:

FMCC 61 Madelia Truman 12

FMCC 65 Ortonville Trojans 4

FMCC 61 St. James Saints 18

Then Friday night the Warriors would travel to Wabasso and see a little better competition against the mighty Jackson County Central Huskies where the Warriors would fall 3-65. Then Wabasso was up next in the triangular and the Warriors wrestled very well winning the dual 52- 30 ending the week with 4 dual wins and 1 loss.

In the two days of wrestling each wrestler would have to opportunity to see 5 matches.

First up on Thursday were the Madelia Truman Jayhawks, and Teague Meyer would be the first wrestler out of the stable who would capture a forfeit. Then Torrin Clark fell in 1:28 to Noel Davila.

Noah Mathiowetz had a close match against Carlos Flores-Lemus ending in a 4-3 decision granting the Warriors 1 of 4 decisions of the dual. It was a battle for the butcher as each wrestler used the move to put his opponent on their back. Noah got the first takedown in the first period, and started on the bottom in the second where Flores would get the butcher and put Mathiowetz on his back to score a 2 point nearfall. The Third period was all Mathiowetz with a reversal from bottom position and giving up a penalty point for a full nelson.

Quinten Lewis wasted no time catching Nick Firchau in a solid knuckle roll half and getting the pin in 52 seconds.

Denver Ash received a forfeit followed by Owen Olsom who totally dominated Blaine Wilde scoring two takedowns a cracle for a nearfall and a reversal for a major decision 8-0.

Aiden Lorenzen and Carter Benda both received forfeits followed by Carson Klein who gave up an early takedown to Logan Slater in the first period. The second period was all Carson as he started in the bottom position and earned a quick escape the shook Slater to the mat in a front headlock to get the go behind for 2. Then the third period kinda fell apart as Carson tried to run the legs and ended up on his back giving up a pin.

Christian Kuball put on a takedown show against Connor Rathman and ended up scoring the pin with an armbar running around Rathmans head and pinning his back to the mat.

Colby Ryder and Rylan all received forfeits.

Ortonville was next and Teague Meyer was the first wrestler to get the nod and went 3 periods against Cody Klepel fighting against everything Klepel had to offer only giving up the major.

Torrin Clarke received a forfeit. Then Caleb Rosenbrook would get Dylan Honetschlager and wrestled like an allstar getting single leg after single leg cutting hard in between. Then Rosenbrook held Honetschlager in a reverse half for a nearfall all in the first period. The second period was all Rosenbrook again starting on top breaking Honetschlager down and getting the knuckleroll half earning the pin.

Quinten Lewis too would have an exciting match getting the chance to show off his takedown skills against Brooklyn Conrad with two takedowns and a nearfall in the first period. The match slowed a little bit at Conrad was a tough competitor only giving up a reversal to Lewis in the 2nd period and a single takedown in the third giving Lewis the major decision 11-2.

Denver Ash took 1:42 seconds to get the double chicken wing and pin Anthony Eustice.

Owen Olsem and Aiden Lorenzen both received forfeits. Then Carter Benda put on a takedown clinic against Trent Eastman. Carter scored 6 take downs, two in each period, and an escape for the 13-5 major decision.

Ortonville was open and would forfeit all the weights till Rylan Klein stepped onto the mat for the heavyweight bout against James Conrad. Rylan after a lot of hand fighting would earn the takedown in each period giving up two escapes walked away with the decision win.

St. James would be the last dual of the night with the most wrestling and the Warriors started off on the right foot with Teague Meyer setting the pace with a 4:42 pin. It took two periods to break down Jesus Leyva to get him to finally settle for the armbar.

Noah Mathiowetz followed a forfeit to Torrin Clark Wrestling Arlene Melendez Noah wasted no time with the initial takedown and caught an arm holding Melendez to the mat for the referee to signal the pin.

Quinten Lewis in an exciting match against Talyn Tande gave up the first takedown and wrestled the first period on his belly. The coaches had enough confidence to let Quinten start in bottom position for the second period and he would prove them right earning a quick reversal and taking his turn to ride out a period but unable to score any back points. The third period had the wrestlers starting in a neutral position and Quinten would give up the first takedown but earned a quick reversal and eventually broke Tande down in a nearfall cradle to secure the win.

Denver Ash had a tough loss to Kollin Anderson giving up a pin in the second period after a well fought match.

Aiden Lorenzen against Levi Miest wrestled excellent on his feet getting the initial takedown followed by a nearside cradle for a three point nearfall in the first period. The second period was all Aiden too starting on bottom earning the escape and a penalty point. After slipping out of position and giving up a reversal Aiden quickly earned his escape and a takedown ending the period 11-2. The third period gave a little excitement as Lorenzen tried to run his legs in and got too high giving up a reversal but held on for the eventual major decision win.

Carter Benda was next out of the gate for the Warriors and this time after a couple of take downs and a hard cut got the half in and finished the match with a pin against Hayden Davis.

Carson Klein had a lot of back and forth in his match against Peyton Wolner giving up a takedown in the first period Carson was able to find a reverse and score his own points keeping the score tied going into the 2nd period. The scoring continued with each wrestler scoring a reversal, but Carson was able to stay on top after his and score the well deserved pin.

Ryder Henning in his match against Julio Esqueda took two period to finally find a hold that would get Esqueda to submit to a pin.

Rylan Klein fell to Will Curry in a butcher two thirds of the way through the first period.

The Jackson County Central powerhouse in the land of wrestling sent their 106 pounder Tate Phillips out to wrestle Teague Meyer and it would prove to be the only mistake they would make in the 3-65 blowout. Meyer, with a takedown in the

Meyer, with a takedown in the first period and a reversal in the third, would try to set the pace against Phillips by earning a 4-2 decision, and Lucas Kuball at 113 almost delivered.

Kuball took Fricke to the mat and scored a nearfall with a tilt using his advances technical skills. The second and third period didn’t go as well as Fricke seemed to have more heart in the match. Fricke eventually found his way to a pin.

Carter Benda at 152 put up some pretty good numbers against Skyler Andrews. Carter with his speed and athleticism earned the first takedown but gave up a penalty point and an escape to tie the score in the first period. Benda let Andrews start in the neutral position giving up the only point scored in the 2nd period on an escape. The third period is the period of who has the most heart and both of these boys wanted it. Benda starting on the bottom found his way on top to score the reversal. In hopes that Benda would cut Andrews and allow for another takedown Andrews held on and scored his own reverse and a nearfall bringing the score 7-4. Benda would earn his escape but time ran out before he was able to score his takedown to tie the score.

Carson Klein at 160 showed some maturity and grit as he wrestled out of some jams against Brayden Winter. Winter with the first takedown was unable to hang on as Carson earned a reverse and a penalty point. Winter kept wrestling though and had his own reversal rolling through on a move. With a score of 6-5 Winter going into the second period Carson started on top. Running the legs Carson couldn’t turn Winter for a nearfall and with the same score went to the third period. The third period was all Winter after an escape by Klein he earned a takedown and held on to an arm for the turn and the pin.

Matthew Haley’s legs were too much for Kuball as he wasn’t able to defend and got turned in the second period for the fall.

Ryder Henning and Rylan Klein both fell early in the first period as the JCC Huskies took the dual.

The Wabasso Rabbits set the tone for their home dual against the FMCC Warriors by putting up the single spotlight over the center mat.

Brayden Gilb got his first varsity match wrestling against Kaysen Harms of Wabasso, but fell at 1:12 in the first period.

Lucas Kuball took his match against Ashto Weidemann into the third period before losing by fall.

Caleb Rosenbrook earned an escape after a takedown and a nearfall by Mikale Goblirsch, but fell in 48 seconds into the 2nd period.

Quinten Lewis ended the scoring bleed by taking Nolan Hanson down and keeping him on his back for the :39 second fall.

Denver Ash Kept the team score close by earning a fall in the second period against Gavin Marotzke. After only a takedown in the first period Ash started on bottom in the 2nd earning a reversal getting the armbar circling the head of Marotzke and holding for the pin.

Owen Olsem completely dominated Chance Fischer earning the first takedown and two penalty points giving up a reversal just to reverse on his own sitting out and turning in. The second period found Owen breaking Fischer with three takedowns and three hard cuts. Then in the third period starting on bottom wrestling a broken opponent Olsem starting in bottom position and earned the escape then took Fischer down trapping an arm leading to an armbar. Circling the head with the armbar put Fischer on his back giving up the pin and tying the score.

Aiden Lorenzen kept the momentum breaking Todd Deterling with 5 takedowns eventually earning the pin and the lead at 24-18.

Carter Benda in much of the same fashion wrestling good on his feet stayed in the neutral position only earning takedown ending the match with a major decision 11-3 against Mason Kampsen.

After Devin Landsman lost by pinfall to Chase Irlbeck, Carson Klein earned a forfeit, followed by Christian Kuball who wasted no time pinning Sam Welch in a nearside cradle putting the Warriors on top 40-24.

After wrestling very tough for two and a half periods Colby Kesteloot was pinned by Zeke Olson.

The Warriors took forfeits at 220 and 285 ending with another dual win 52-30.

The Warrior JV wrestling team traveled to Jackson, MN to qualify for the state JV Championship and Colby Kesteloot earned a 3rd place. Kaston Clark earned second place qualifying him for the state championship.

Coming up this week the Warriors Travel to Tracy for a tournament on Thursday followed by another tournament in Lamberton on Friday.
