The Murray County Central Rebel Girls were on the road Friday night in Adrian. The Rebels were taking on the Dragons for the first time this season and we’re looking for their first conference win of the year. Adrian Ellsworth has also struggled this season coming into the game on Friday with just two wins compared to the Rebels 1. The Rebels would fall behind early but they would close the gap late it just wouldn’t be enough.

The game started with the Dragons getting the ball to Julia Bullerman and when they didn’t get it to her she would go and get it. Bullerman would score early and often around the basket using post-up moves and her left-handed shot and then she moved away from the basket for a couple of short jump shots. As the Rebels turned their focus to her on the low block it opened up the outside shot of Sadie Krahling who scored eight first-half points. Madeline Wagner added six points later in the half as the Dragons pulled away. MCC was led by Emily Rohrer who scored 6 points in the first half while Mary Lou McNab added 5. MCC struggled to keep pace with the Dragons who led 31- 16 at the half mostly because the Rebels struggled to make shots.

In the second half, Adrain Ellsworth would go up by 20 points as Wagner and Josi Altman scored the team’s first ten points of the second half. The Rebels kept close tabs on Bullerman and Krahling which allowed other players to score. The Rebels would make a frantic comeback with about five minutes to play. The Rebels would force the Dragons into eight turnovers over those final five minutes and the Rebels would score twelve points to get within 8 points. The Rebels with just under a minute to play went to the free-throw line to cut the deficit to six points. MCC would miss both free throws and the run was over. MCC would fall 52 to 44.

The Rebels were led by Emily Rohrer who scored 15 points and Mary Lou McNab added 9 points but other than Kelli Miller who scored 5 secondhalf points no other Rebel had more than 3 points. The Dragons had three players score in double figures. Madeline Wagner scored 13 points, Julia Bullerman added 12, and Sadie Krahling finished with 10 points. The Rebels turned the ball over 25 times but forced 22. The Rebels will play the Westbrook Walnut Grove Chargers and the Russell Tyler Ruthton Knights this coming week.
