The C-squad was off to a good start against RTR in Tyler Tuesday night, but couldn’t sustain that level of play against a strong RTR squad. Going down 24-14 at halftime and eventually falling 49-25. Hudson Schryvers led the Rebels with 8 points, Dawson Schreier had 5, Andrew Holm 4 and Gavin Gillette had 4, and Dylan Kluis had 3, and Carson Englekes had 1.
The B-squad delivered a good old fashion barn burner. A back and forth game that had MCC leading by 3 going into the break. 20-17. Bryce Hoekman had 10 first half points, Ross Englekes had 6, and Carter Lewis 4 to round out the scoring for the Rebels.
The second half would see runs by both teams with RTR getting the last run to pull away in the end. The Knights scored 28 second half points to the Rebels 20 and earned the 45- 40 win.
Hoekman led the way with 19 points, Hudson Schryvers had 9 points all in the second half, Ross Englekes finished with 6, Carter Lewis 4, and Dylan Kramer 2.
The Varsity game would get off to a strong start for the Rebels, as the three-ball was connecting early and often. Derek Kluis and Christian Tentinger each drilled 2 each, but free throws and points in the paint were a struggle. Jumping out on the Knights early the Rebels had chances to extend an early lead, but leaving 8 points off of free throws and at least as many from the paint on the floor in the first half gave the Knights all they needed to take control of the game. A turning point was when the two teams were deadlocked at 21 for what seemed to be an eternity. Unfortunately, Junior guard Derek Kluis would suffer an injury during this time and losing his offense and reliability would prove to be an unraveling point for the Rebels. MCC would be stuck on 21 for nearly 7 minutes and would end the half with 23 points as the Knights who were down up until the 21 to 21 tie, would end the half on a big run and take control of the game going into the break at 32 to 23. Drew Werkman would make his presence felt in the paint scoring a first half high 12 points.
A nine-point deficit isn’t insurmountable, but RTR would turn up the pressure in the second half and use the Run and Jump defense knowing the Rebels were down a guard. The turnovers started to mount up and the Knights feasted off of them, pushing in transition scoring easy buckets and extending the lead quickly and effectively. MCC never had an answer for the defense which led to relatively know offensive flow for the entire second half as the Rebels only connected on 13 points and eventually falling 63 to 36.
MCC will be in action again Thursday night in a conference game against Edgerton, in Edgerton. The Rebels fall to 6-7 and are currently sitting in 9th in the 20 team section, just ahead of the 8-5 Wabasso Rabbits and just behind the 6-5 WWG Chargers. MCC is sitting 5th in the Sub-Section as SWC, RTR, TMB, and WWG are all ahead of the Rebels in that order.
