On Sunday, October 31st, Murray County Medical Center hosted its first annual ‘Trunkor-Treat’ event for children and families around the community. This event was inspired by wanting to provide a safe alternative for children and families to celebrate without having to cross many roads, especially at night, and for those with more than one young child.
“It can be difficult for younger kids to remember road safety when they’re excited about getting candy and treats, so we wanted to provide families with an outlet to have that excitement safely” said Doria Drost, marketing manager at the hospital and organizer of the event.
Many departments at Murray County Medical Center, area businesses and organizations, and individuals contributed to the event this year. Murray County Medical Center had 4 stations set up throughout the route including their Ambulance, Business Office, Nursing, and Marketing departments. Other participants for the event included Finley Engineering, Hadley Lions, Sturdevant’s. Slayton Public Library, Slayton Fire Department, Re/Max Advantage Plus, Monogram Meats, Murray County Hospice, Dave Schwartz, Slayton American Legion Family, and Shetek Lutheran Ministries. Throughout the event, over 400 children attended with over 150 in the first half hour.
“We look forward to turning this event into an annual tradition here at Murray County Medical Center are excited to see how it will grow each year” said Drost.
The Murray County Medical Center Trunk-or-Treat was one of three trunk-or-treat events held in Slayton over Halloween.
