DISCUSSED XCEL ENERGY, BROADBAND GRANT & SENIOR DINING PARKING LOT
Slayton City Council met on Monday, July 18th. All members were in attendance for the evening’s meeting. The agenda and meeting minutes from July 5th were approved. The claims were also reviewed and approved.
The only item of pending was an update from City Administrator Josh Malchow on the Xcel Energy Franchise. The fieldwork for the electrical assessment has been completed. Malchow said they were updated early in the assessment and the poles are not in good condition. The hard data will be coming in the near future Malchow anticipates soon. July 27th will be the meeting with Xcel and Blake Heronimus along with Dean Ackerman will be attending this with Malchow. Kate Harmsen inquired about the roof at City Hall. Malchow explained that there was a miscommunication between himself and the owner at the company and the entire project was not completed. They are working to find a resolution with the adjoining wall.
They moved forward to new business. The first item was a public hearing for the well head protection plan. Chad Katzenberger with the SEH Consulting Firm provided the Council with an update on the plan results. There was no one from the public in attendance to make any comment and the hearing was closed, then the plan was adopted by the Council.
The next item of new business was an update from Marty Seifert who represents the Coalition of Greater MN Cities. It was a “lackluster” season as Miron Carney stated. The one successful item was the Broadband Grant that passed this year which the City of Slayton is taking advantage of. Nothing else really happened this year which is disappointing. It was a difficult session since the state was shut down due to covid. The Council thanked Marty for his time.
The zoning committee con sidered the preliminary plat for the Rupp’s Westside Industrial Park located on the west side of town (22nd street). They recommended approval per how it was drafted to the City Council. The Council approved this. They next addressed the parking lot near the senior center. The sidewalk was all recently replaced and now they need to decide what to-do with the driveway area. The proposal the City received from Huset Construction is $23,850. The Council approved to replace the parking lot area for the senior center.
The next item of business was the RFP for the Broadband Grant. Everything has been approved by DEED at this point. This will allow the City of Slayton to go out for bids on the broadband project. The Council approved the RFP.
The next Council meeting will be Monday, August 1st.
