SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL LOOKS INTO SEWER REALIGNMENT FOR OAK AVE

Slayton City Council met on Monday, May 16th. Councilmember Blake Heronimus was absent from the evening’s meeting. They approved the minutes from the previous meetings on May 2nd and April 27th, as well as the claims for the month.

City Administrator Josh Malchow reported that the data the City of Slayton requested from Xcel should be in their hands by June 1st. The broadband environmental draft has been submitted to the State and they are working on it already. Malchow was happy to see this, as he anticipated it taking a while at this level.

Old business included the variance request for the Rupp property. The City had received an estimate for the Oak Avenue sewer realignment. The project does look feasible and would have a price tag over $200K according to the engineer’s estimate. The Council discussed the need to the City for this project to help fix other issues that happen within that part of town. The question was asked “How are we paying for this?” Rupp has lost some interest in the project, Malchow stated. The Council agreed to table the request until the next meeting when Blake was present.

Katie Jacobson was present to give the 2021 Audit for the City of Slayton. There were no areas of concern. The City of Slayton continues to be in a good fiscal position. The City has an excess in the unassigned working capital fund in the amount of $137,006 which the Council approved transferring to the Capital Improvement Fund. They also approved accepting the modified audit report.

The next item of new business on the agenda was the Deputy Clerk position. They tabled this item for now, and called for a special meeting set for Monday, May 23rd at 6pm.

They also approved moving forward with the Airport Driveway Project, as the State was able to come up with the additional funds needed for the project. This project is 95% covered by state funds.

With no other business the meeting was adjourned.
