REBELS CELEBRATE WIN OVER MLAC

The MCC Rebels were on the road last Thursday night (May 12) playing on the Mountain Lake Area Comfrey Wolverines in a big Red Rock Conference meeting. The Rebels beat the Wolverines earlier this season in the bottom of the 7th inning. In that game the Rebels had to battle from being a run down to win on Thursday the Rebels had to hang onto the lead to get the win.

Mary Lou McNab has been one of the hottest hitters going and she put together a great game as she led the Rebels’ attack. McNab singled in the second inning and would score the Rebels’ first run on a Jayda Hellewell base hit. She would score the second run for the Rebels on another single followed by an error. McNab would reach base in all 4 at-bats. Abby Loosbrock would get a pair of hits late in the game scoring a run and driving in another. The Rebels would lead five to three heading to the seventh inning.

Thea Schneider would pitch a strong game for the Rebels. She wouldn’t allow more than one run in any single inning. The Wolverines are a tough team to stop when they are clicking but the Rebels did a good job of their leadoff hitter Jaci Tollefson who sets the table for their entire roster. She would reach base just one time on an error. The second hitter in the order wouldn’t reach base in four at-bats. The Rebels led by two going to the bottom of the 7th and the Rebels would retire the top two hitters in the order before MLAC got a base runner. Brook Naas would single and score but Schneider would retire the final out of the game on a ground ball back to the pitcher’s circle for the win 5-4.

Schneider got the win for the Rebels allowing ten hits, and 2 walks while striking out 7. For the Wolverines, Kennedie Simon took the loss pitching 7 innings allowing 15 hits, and 3 walks, while striking out 3. The two-run fifth was the key for the Rebels as they pulled out another close win over MLAC. The Rebels found ways to score enough to get the win with key hits while taking advantage of a couple of Wolverine mistakes. The win puts the Rebels in a position to finish in second place in the Red Rock Conference with a win over Adrian Ellsworth this week.
