RUNS FOOTBALL FOR HOMECOMING & TAKES A MOMENT TO THINK OF MOLLY BEFORE PASSING THE BALL OFF
Proud. Proud is the only word that I can describe what I am this week. I am proud of the sport that I fell into. I am proud of the 34 athletes that call themselves the MCC/F Warriors Cross Country Team. I am proud of each and every member of our team for showing up to the meet on Tuesday and running their hardest, just two days after finding out that one of our teammates had passed away in a tragic accident. I am so proud to be called a Warrior because that is truly what our team was this week. To find out that one of our teammates that we ran with every day had died and then having to compete just two short days later; we did so and we fought through it as a team. There may have been tear streaked faces as we came across the finish line, but we all did exactly what it said down out legs, we ran for Molly.
Molly wasn’t just one of our teammates, she was part of our family. When I joined cross country, I thought that I was joining a sport. What I didn’t realize is that it was actually a family that I was joining. There is something that unites us as we are pushing our bodies to that max. I am proud of our cross country family for coming together and being more united than ever this past week. But above all, I am proud of Molly. Not just for the way that she matter what place she got, she always had a smile on her face and that’s the way each one of us should live our lives.
On Tuesday, September 27th, we had our home cross country meet and although it looked different than meets in the past, each one of us came out a winner because we fought through the emotions of what we were going through. It didn’t matter what time we got or what place we were in. We weren’t there for that purpose. We were there to run for Molly and to honor her. Although it was a challenging week, we did what Molly would have done, we kept going. Molly never stopped going. No matter what happened, Molly kept pushing. Each of us ran our hardest on Tuesday night and we did it for something bigger than a first place medal or the glory of getting a personal record, we did it for Molly.
Each of us can learn something from Molly. She had the most contagious laughter and the most determination I’ve ever seen. She never once complained about anything, ever. Molly was always positive and she radiated that positivity to those around her. Molly loved life and she made the best of every possible moment. She always did the right thing no matter what anyone else was doing. She never let anyone veer her away from doing what was right. Molly loved life and everything it had to offer. She always walked through life with the biggest smile on her face. She smiled through good times and hard times and everything in between.
Each one of us should strive to be a little more like Molly.
