The Murray County Central volleyball team began their 2022 season with a trip to Canby to take on the Lancers.
The Rebels faced a very good team in the Lancers and struggled from the get go with many aspects of the game, specifically in the hitting game.
Head coach Kate Furth in her first season commented that serve receive was pretty solid. “After the first contact there were too many errors, but that first contact was generally under control; which is not a bad base for any team to start with.”
Defensively, the Rebels showed some strength, but were only able to throw up four blocks on the night and add just 36 digs.
In game one, MCC fell 11-25 and while blocking was obsolete, this was the best set defensively.
Game two also ended in an 11-25 score, but the girls stepped up at the service line collecting two aces and saw a little fire in Morgan Winter’s blocking come along in game three, which ended 15-25.
As a team MCC had 36 digs, four blocks, five ace serves, eight kills, three tips adding 11 assists from Kate Slettum (6) and Casey Miller (5).
Leading for the Rebels were Jaelen Barstad with ten digs, three ace serves and three kills for Zoey Iverson, while Morgan Winter contributed two solo blocks and three kills as well.
For the Rebel JV, Thea Schneider led with 15 assists and Kate Blankenship led the squad with five kills and was 7/7 at the service line with four points. The scores for the JV were: 9-25, 19-25, and 1-15. The C-squad also fell to Canby by scores of 12-25, 9-25 and 8-25.
