Game results for the week did not go the way the Buttermakers had hoped, gong 1-1 for the week. The scheduled game on Saturday was canceled and Sunday’s game against Milroy did not go Hadley’s way. Here is the week’s games recap:

Wednesday at Adrian

Hadley traveled to Adrian on Wednesday night hoping to solidify their standing in the Gopher League against an improved A’s team. Jacob Van Dam started on the mound for Hadley against the A’s lefty ace, Tucker Sorenson. The Hadley bats stayed hot and the Buttermaker defense was stellar as they had no trouble dispersing the A’s.

Hadley got things going from the start. In the 1st, a lead-off walk to Derek Platt started things for Hadley. Nick Bruning would then come up and hit a fly ball over the right field fence for a quick 2-0 lead. Hadley would load the bases but were unable to add on to the lead. Hadley would add on 2 more runs in the 2nd inning. Joe Larson would single followed by a double by Nick Bruning. Singles by Max Zwart and Alex Petersen would bring in the runs. Hadley had a chance to score bigtime, but they would once again leave the bases loaded.

Hadley would chase Tucker Sorenson out of the game as they scored 6 runs off the A’s starter. The big blow would come from the bat of Eric Wieneke as he would hit a base loaded grand slam over the centerfield fence. Hadley would leave 2 runners in scoring position or the Buttermakers would have scored more. Adrian would get to Van Dam in the bottom of the inning as they broke through with 3 runs on 3 hits, but that would be the last time Adrian would get a hit off Van Dam the rest of the game.

Hadley would score twice in the 5th and 7th inning to close out a 14-3 10-run rule victory.

Jacob Van Dam went the distance allowing only 4 hits to the A’s and striking out 8 batters to pick up the win. Alex Petersen had a good night at the plate going 4-4 with 3 rbis. Nick Bruning would pick up 2 hits and 3 rbis, Eric Wieneke had 2 hits and 4 rbis and Max Zwart would get 2 hits and 1 rbi. All other Buttermakers in the starting lineup would collect a hit. Joe Larson and Trent Carlson would pick up Hadley’s other rbis in the game.

Sunday vs Milroy

The Milroy Irish arrived in Hadley on Sunday as the Gopher League leaders. Hadley was hoping to throw a wrench in the Irish run for the Gopher League title, but the Buttermakers could not get the job done as the Irish would go long ball to beat the Buttermakers 9-6

Milroy would get off to a fast start, going up 4-0 through the first 3 innings on a lead-off homerun, a 2-run homerun the 2nd and a run scoring double in the 3rd.

Hadley would come fighting back in the bottom of the 3rd. After singles by Derek Platt and Joe Larson; Nick Bruning would step up to the plate and hit a fly ball just out of the reach of the Irish centerfielder for a homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.

Milroy would add runs in the 4th on a 2-run double to increase the lead back to 6-3. Milroy would score once again in the 5th to go up 7-3 while leaving runners on 2nd and 3rd. Hadley would cut back into the lead in the bottom of the 5th to 6-5. Max Zwart would single, and Eric Wienke would reach on a walk. Alex Petersen would single to score Zwart, and Danny Blankenship would hit a sacrifice fly to score Wieneke.

In the 6th, Milroy would chase Weber from the game. Weber would give up another lead-off homerun and back-to-back singles to force a pitching change. Nick Bruning would relieve Weber and limit the Irish to just the 1 run and the 7-5 lead.

In the 7th, things looked up for Hadley. Max Zwart would lead off by walking and then Eric Wieneke would double to put runner in scoring position with no outs. Milroy made a pitching change. The Milroy reliever would get the next three Buttermakers out and kept the Irish in the lead at 7-5.

Milroy threatened to add to their lead in the 8th forcing another Buttermaker pitching change. Max Zwart was brought into relieve Bruning. Max was able to keep the Irish from scoring. The Irish would pick up a 2-run homerun off Zwart in the 9th to go up 9-5.

Hadley would try for a comeback in the bottom of the 9th as Jaden Bloemendahl and Alex Petersen would single to start the inning off, but Hadley could only get one run in as the game ended with a 9-6 loss.

For the game, Hadley would outhit the Irish. Alex Petersen led Hadley again in the hitting department with 3 hits. Derek Platt and Max Zwart would each add 2 hits with Joe Larson, Nick Bruning, Eric Wieneke, Jaden Bloemendahl, Danny Blankenship, and Trent Carlson all picking up 1 hit. Trent Carlson would pick up Hadley’s other rbi. Avery Weber was charged with the loss.

Hadley enters the last week of league play with two scheduled home games. On Saturday, Hadley will entertain the Adrian A’s and then on Fan Appreciation Sunday, Ruthton Royals come to Buttermaker Park for the finale. Both game times are set for 2:00 pm.
