By Arnold Krusemark As you read this column the county fair will be closing down for another year. We hope you went and enjoyed it. And then it will be back to your home, yard, and garden.
In years past we have mentioned the idea of having a second garden to be planted about this time. This is to produce some late fresh items to keep your meals fresh and tasty.
Checking the calendar we note there will, be about 60 days left from planting until freezeup. That will be time for some quick growing garden produce.
We would suggest planting even a short row. This could include radishes for sure and maybe some lettuce. Maybe you might have some other ideas of things which would be edible by the end of October and into November.
In the meantime the rest of your garden produce will continue to grow. Not to mention the weeds needing hoeing, etc. Sweet corn is now ready - either from your own garden, from roadside stands or on Farmer’s Market days.
In other words, its garden produce harvest time - from now until the end of the growing season. Back inside the house you still have your house plants to water and care for.
And the yard to mow, etc.
Until next week.
