A saying very familiar to combat veterans is, “You don’t know what it is to live until you’ve almost died.” We so often take the life we have been given for granted and grumble and complain over little or nothing. At this time of the year when we remember all the men and women who have given their lives in defense of our freedom, I hope we can stop and carefully reflect on their tremendous sacrifice on our behalf and thank God for them, and that our freedom is yet preserved although it is in grave danger today.
I thank God often for being able to return from Viet-Nam sound in body and mind, but like many of you, I lost several friends who gave their lives that we may be free. May we use our freedom to defend our freedom from all those who would destroy our Constitution.
John Quincy Adams, our sixth President said following the Revolutionary War, “Posterity, you will never know what it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom; I hope you will make good use of it.” Wouldn’t it be nice if all Americans who still love our nation and cherish our freedom would stand up tall and speak out against those who would destroy it? God bless.
